A Federal District Court Judge in the State of Washington has put a temporary halt on the President’s executive order concerning the travel ban for persons from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia and Yemen.
The Judge has asked the Department of Justice representing the President and the four states, Washington, New York, Massachusetts and Virginia, to submit legal briefs by today, Monday, February 6, 2017, stating their positions as to why the travel ban should be upheld or lifted.
The effect and outcome of this legal battle and how it will impact visa holders from the seven affected countries is anyone’s guess; however, we advise all our clients from said countries to reenter the United States today if they can. If you are an employer and any of your staff, faculty, scientists, etc. are from and in any of the seven countries, recall them back stateside today.
