Consult with Our Orlando Immigration Attorneys about the O1 Visa for Extraordinary Abilities

Close to Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, and several high-tech institutions, Orlando is often frequented by acclaimed actors, athletes, executives, scientists, and researchers who are working on projects in the area. If it so happens that any of these celebrities is a foreign citizen, he or she may need an O1 visa before being allowed to work in the United States.

The O1 visa is designed for foreign-born individuals with extraordinary abilities in the arts, athletics, business, education, and science—and whose work has been recognized nationally or internationally. These individuals, who have typically won some kind of recognized awards, prizes, and/or acclaim, can benefit from the O1 visa because it allows them to live and work in the United States for the duration of their employment here.

Due to our decades of experience and board certification in Immigration & Naturalization Law, the Orlando immigration attorneys at Maney | Gordon, P.A. are uniquely qualified to assist area residents with the O1 visa as well as any other temporary or permanent work visa. The O1 visa typically is approved for individuals who have supporting evidence of:

  • Extraordinary achievement in TV, music, or movies. Such evidence could be nomination for a major award such as a Grammy, Oscar, or Emmy Award.
  • Distinction in their field, such as being named in the director of a production or receiving rave reviews for a performance.
  • Extraordinary achievement in business, sports, education, or the sciences. Evidence might include receiving a major award such as an Olympic Medal or Nobel Prize.

There are several requirements for the O1 visa. For example, the foreign-born individual wanting the visa cannot apply for it on his or her own; the application must come from a US agent or prospective employer. There also must be an offer of employment in the US for the future O1 visa holder. Once obtained, however, the O1 visa is uniquely beneficial because it can be renewed indefinitely as the opportunity for employment remains active.

If you would like more information about the O1 visa for extraordinary abilities, or information about any other type of visa, please contact the Orlando immigration attorneys at Maney | Gordon, P.A.
