President Donald Trump’s recent tweet on travel ban drew several reactions from different audiences. His recent tweet was a result of the London Terrorist attack. Trump’s advisors crafted a second version, which dropped Iraq from the list of targeted countries, removed religious language and made other adjustments in an effort to pass constitutional muster. This revised ban has also been blocked by the federal court.
Reporter Destiny McKeiver of WJXT, News4Jax, held a live interview on June 3, 2017 at the offices of Stephen H. Davis, local immigration lawyer in Jacksonville, FL, to ask his opinion on President Trump’s tweets.
Davis emphasized: “We have to keep our country safe. The London attack gives Trump a chance to sell his travel ban. Trump being a salesman, is trying to sell his 2nd Travel Ban. He is doing what he thinks is right, which is keeping our country safe and secure.”
A federal court has ruled against the administration, saying that even with the changes, the revised ban “drips with religious intolerance, animus, and discrimination.” Last week, the Justice department asked the Supreme Court to issue an emergency order reinstating the travel ban. The high court has given critics of the ban until June 12 to respond.
Attorney Davis said in his interview that he believes the travel ban will end up with the Supreme Court of the United States (“SCOTUS”).
